Well this is unexpected. People are beginning to understand what it is I’m trying to say.
The goal is to eventually start a design-build entity with several other complimentary creators. Homes that gently integrate with the natural world and generate surplus clean water and power will need to be a cooperate work of art. Part of our purpose will be to perfect technology, not invent technology. Another part will be to design an experience for the client where they can get enrolled in the creation process and make it their own.
This will not be easy. Have I said that before? It’s hard enough to write these weekly posts let alone recruit a team, research technology, figure out how to collect water legally, and perhaps find a client or at least a prospect!
The idea is a bit complex to say the least, so I write about it.
What comes next?
As the story, the “why”, and the how become more clear, it’s time to think about what’s next. The two biggest constraints I see are: how/where to collect water legally and what technologies are currently available to make this a reality?
A quick search and I’ve found An Introduction to Oregon’s Water Laws. It’s only 52 pages long but for a weekend warrior, who also wants to do other things, it seems daunting. To pull this all together it will be a lot of work and I’m committed to doing it. It just might take a while.
Next week we can dive into water rights and how this idea might work for collecting water at the home. For now, that’s what’s next in a long string of steps to make this dream a reality. Thanks for coming on the journey.

August 5, 2018 at 4:15 pmHi Aaron,
I enjoy reading your pieces every week and it’s very inspiring to see how your thinking and storytelling evolves. Nicely done.
What did you search about that led you to the Oregon Water Laws? Why did you choose this over other resources?
I wonder if it would be helpful if you would make a request on LinkedIn (or other network) for feedback on how/where to collect water legally. What about other water related affiliations (if anything like this exists?)
Look forward to reading more.
Thank you, Maria

August 7, 2018 at 2:06 pmHave you been writing down your baby steps to accomplish week to week? I’d love to see progress by your mini-to-do list on how you’re getting this done step by step, versus reflecting. Your mini accomplishments help me see where you’ve been and where you’re headed!

August 7, 2018 at 2:24 pmI think you have a great start and a very interesting project. I know a 52 document on Oregon water laws might not be interesting but in order to make change you need to start with the status quo. You are on your way!

August 7, 2018 at 9:47 pmSo this is the clearest one, for sure. It seems like you decided to home in on naming your thing and leave it at that, and I love it. (Did you know it’s actually “home in” and not “hone in?” I hate that.
Anyway, I think it would be beneficial to you and your readers if you forced yourself to restate this one sentance as though you were explaining it to a 10-year-old. “The goal is to eventually start a design-build entity with several other complimentary creators.”
Not because that’s how you’ll always explain it, but because it will help give you new angles to play with when you’re spreading your message and recruiting your team. It may very well be that it takes eight 10-year-old-style sentences to convey what that single grown-up sentence conveys, but there might be some importantly simple words that emerge.
I love watching this take shape, Aaron. Keep going.
